Habitat for Humanity of Southeast Ohio is an independently chartered affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI), the largest nonprofit home builder worldwide. Habitat for Humanity of Southeast Ohio serves Athens, Hocking, Perry, Meigs, Morgan, Noble, and the majority of Muskingum County.
Locally, Habitat for Humanity of Southeast Ohio is on a mission to transform the lives of individuals in Southeast Ohio by working with families in need and advocating for affordable housing.
Since 1990, Habitat for Humanity of Southeast Ohio has empowered 85 families to achieve their dreams of home ownership and break the cycle of poverty through our Home ownership Program. Habitat for Humanity of Southeast Ohio also works to remove substandard houses from communities. In this way, we can transform entire neighborhoods, one block at a time.
Our homes are sold with zero-interest mortgages to local low-income families who contribute 250 hours of “sweat equity” toward Habitat projects. Mortgage principal payments are recycled back to build or renovate additional homes through our Fund for Humanity.
A world where everyone has a decent place to live.
Our Mission Statement
Seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope.
HFHSEO Gives Back
Habitat for Humanity of Southeast Ohio gives a portion of all our donations to Habitat International’s Tithing Program, which encourages Habitat partners to donate a tenth of what they raise in support of building homes in developing countries. Through this global tithe program, Habitat for Humanity of Southeast Ohio has helped build over 50 homes in Honduras and other parts of Central America, in addition to the homes we have built locally.
All Are Welcome
Habitat for Humanity of Southeast Ohio has an open-door policy: All who believe that everyone needs a decent, affordable place to live are welcome to help with the work, regardless of race, religion, age, gender, political views or any of the other distinctions that too often divide people. In short, Habitat welcomes volunteers and supporters from all backgrounds and also serves people in need of decent housing regardless of race or religion. This means that Habitat will not offer assistance on the expressed or implied condition that people must either adhere to or convert to a particular faith, or listen and respond to messaging designed to induce conversion to a particular faith.
